Music Monday – 4.0 John Mayer

Ever since John Mayer showed up on the scene, I’ve been a big fan of his music. Not only have I rocked out in my bedroom to his different albums, but I was fortunate enough to watch him in concert about two years ago. He’s a little crazy at times, and gives some pretty wild interviews, but I still love his smooth ballads and v-neck t-shirts.

Although his new album Battle Studies is a little off the beaten path for him, I still love the lyrics. I was struck by the following verse in the song Heartbreak Warfare:

Drop his name
Push it in and twist the knife again
Watch my face
As I pretend to feel no pain

Although John Mayer wrote this song to reflect a specific situation in life, I love interpreting music for my own life. I received a request this week for a sympathy card, as a friend’s mother had passed away. I equated the quoted verse to the pain felt when someone mentions the name of a lost loved one. Below is the card created this week. Thanks for reading!
